Too long away from blogging. Too much time in between posts...Back in that familiar place - paralysis in the face of an upcoming exhibition. I feel as though I shouldn't blog, I should use that time for work but then I don't work since I'm paralysed with fear I wont come up with I dont come up with anything, so I'm not allowed to blog..arghhhh! Trying here to break into that unproductive cycle with some inspiration. I'm going with chalky minty greens...

Also how about some pictures of the work table I finally found for my work space? This took ages to find  but now I have it there's no excuse. I found it on Gumtree - the seller posted the dimensions (which were perfect) but no photo. Who does that? Turns out I'm lucky she didn't because if she had it would have sold before I got to it such an amazing bargain it was. I kept hassling her for a photo until finally I thought I'd just go and see it for myself. The suburb the table owners lived in is one of the most expensive addresses in this state which would auger well you'd think but I've seen rich people who think their crap is more valuable than other peoples crap and put a price on it you could only interpret as an insult This was not that. Rich person who wanted to offload an (amazing) piece of furniture at a more than reasonable price - $200. She could easily have got more for this solid dark wood table made from elm. In some ways it is almost too nice for what I'm using it for and if I had a choice I'd probably want lighter toned timber just as it's easier to work on visually. But beggars cant be choosers and I'm pretty happy and ready (please!) to get going.

Lovely fresh bits of minty green here :) Great find with the table too. I'm yearning for something similar to screenprint on. Hope you wake up fully inspired tomorrow :) Kx

Comic Book Heroines for Prada Spring 2018.

While 1960s comic book heroines featured on bags, coats, cardigans, shirts and dresses for Prada's Spring 2018 collection there's a kind of 1980s subtext here too. With the PRADA font, the colour palette - lots of bright red and electric blue — plus those silhouettes. It's hard then not to think of a 1980s night club when I see this collection — the underground print press with screen printed posters  and thus a little bit of punk too. All very pre-Madonna. Yay Prada!

Studio Space - Jodie Cunningham.

I love images from artist studios and the spaces where they work. This is the amazing studio and gorgeous work of artist Jodie Cunningham. Jodie works in so many different mediums — often recycled materials and always with attention to colour. If you love colour this space is particularly divine.

GUCCI in Auckland.

Walking up the main street of Auckland this summer I was not expecting to see each side of the road wall to wall with international luxury fashion brands. It's not that Auckland isn't fashionable — to the contrary the country is full of it's own authentic, edgy fashion and creativity (a friend puts this down to the cool temperatures and the crappy television) — it's just that this kind of distinctly European traditional luxury seemed a strange fit. Then a local explained that when the cruise liners dock in the harbour the first thing the tourists see coming off the ship are the bright glossy brands beckoning. Maybe some can afford the $3000 price tags for these dresses? Regardless I love Michel Alessandro and there was no keeping me out of GUCCI, getting to see his work live and in captivity. Clearly I was not their most hoped for customer but the Gucci staff were laid back and fun and allowed me to take these photos as well as giving me a catalogue — sealed in envelo…
